--------------------------------- The Thirteenth CXMEE ---------------------------------

Profile
The four-day 13th China Xiamen Machinery & Electronics Exhibition (CXMEE) concluded on April 11, 2009 in Xiamen with fruitful results.

With the concerted efforts of machinery and electronic industries across the Taiwan Straits, the 13th CMXEE saw a significant improvement in overall standard and scale, richer functions, greater specialization, and more significant results. It exhibited the following five major characteristics:

I.    CXMEE attracts extensive attention and a dramatically increased number of visitors and becomes an effective platform for both the mainland and Taiwan to combat the international financial crisis and to jointly tap into the international marketplace.

The 13th CXMEE took place in a time of improving relations between the mainland and Taiwan and in the midst of the challenges of the international financial crisis. As of noon of April 11, the 13th CXMEE has attracted 31,844 visitors from 40 countries and territories, including 5,038 overseas visitors. Total attendance rose by 7,079 compared with last year. Taiwan continued to be the largest source of overseas visitors, with 2,563 visitors, accounting for 50.87 percent of total overseas visitors. Countries and regions with a large presence at CXMEE included Hong Kong, the U.S., Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Germany. The large increase in attendance indicates that CXMEE’s attractiveness and brand recognition have further improved. It also demonstrates the confidence of machinery and electronics industries in the market.

The 13th CXMEE continued to receive extensive attention from overseas business groups and industry professionals, who took an active part in the events. A total of 60 overseas delegations attended the CXMEE, including Taiwan Electric and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association, Taipei World Trade Center, Taiwan Chunghwa Information Software Association, Taiwan Lighting Exporters Association, Taipei Importers and Exporters Association, Taipei E-commerce Association, Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce for Economy and Trade, Singapore Xiamen Association, Thai Ministry of Commerce, Philippines-China Friendship Union, US-Fujian Chamber of Commerce, Xi’ao Fujian Association, and Macao-China Economic Promotion Council. Fujian Economic and Trade Committee and Fujian Machinery Industry Association jointly recruited 3000 business professionals to attend the CXMEE. Fujian Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and Xiamen Overseas Chinese Affairs Office recruited more than 250 industry representatives for business talks at the CXMEE.

This year’s CXMEE saw booming trading and delivered substantial results for exhibitors, and many of them received substantial orders. For example, Taiwan-based Hongquan Machinery won orders worth more than RMB 15 million, Mingxin Welding secured deals worth more than RMB 6 million, and Belgium’s Haco and Japan’s Sodick sold more than RMB 4 million worth of products at the CXMEE. At the first Engineering Machinery Exhibition, sales totaled more than RMB 200 million. Fujian Rongxin Equipment Rental signed a RMB 100 million sales agreement with Jingong Machinery, and Qiaoxiang Machinery signed a RMB 1 million procurement agreement with a merchant from the UAE. The Energy-saving Lighting Show recorded sales of USD 10 million.

II. The scale of the exhibition has further expanded, the content of the exhibition has been enriched, and the technological standard has improved.

More than 800 enterprises from around the world took part in the 13th CXMEE, including 212 Taiwanese enterprises, which set up 508 stands. Specially,

(1)     The scale of the exhibition has reached a record level.

The 13th CXMEE provided an exhibition space of 50,000 square meters, up 20% from last year, and hosted a record 1970 stands. These figures are indicative of CXMEE’s strong vitality and brand recognition. As much as 70 percent of exhibitors have exhibited in previous years, demonstrating CXMEE’s sustained attractiveness.

(2)     The content of the exhibition has been further improved and engineering machinery has become a new highlight.

The Xiamen Engineering Machinery Exhibition alongside the CXMEE, with an exhibition area of 10,000 square meters, showcased many renowned enterprises from across the world, including Xiamen Engineering Machinery, China Lonking Holdings, Fujian Jingong Machinery, Fujian Nanfang Pavement Machinery, Linde-Xiamen Forklift Trucks, Xiagong Group Sanming Heavy Machinery, XCMG, Liugong, Sanyi Heavy Industry, Japan’s komatsu, Germany’s Atlas, and South Korea’s Hyundai and Soosan.

The E-Commerce Exhibition, held alongside the CXMEE, is the first one of its kind in CXMEE’s history, featuring a number of leading companies, such as China Mobile, China Telecom, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and Agricultural Bank of China.

(3)     Renowned enterprises have increased their presence at the CXMEE, and the technological standard of exhibits has improved.

The 13th CXMEE attracted a large number of world-class enterprises, including Germany’s Bosch, the world’s leading tool maker; Japan’s Mazak, Belgium’s Haco, Taiwan Oil Machinery, and Shenyang Lathes. A number of the latest machinery products were unveiled at the CXMEE, including Xiamen’s five top series, Jingong’s JGM wheeled loaders, and Sumitomo’s innovative asphalt paver and excavator, IHISCE’s hydraulic excavator, and China’s first 10-15 ton wheeled excavator driving shaft, Mazak’s world-class exchange programmable and 6-shaft 5-link system and the latest MTN 800 and I150 composite processors. Xiamen Topstar also showcased the world’s brightest fluorescent lamps with a service life of 30,000 hours.

III. Forums and seminars have been more relevant to industry collaboration requirements, professional, pragmatic and efficient.

The 13th CXMEE presented 20 forums and seminars, attracting an audience of 4,720 from industry and academia from both sides of the Taiwan Straits. These forums and seminars exhibited the following characteristics:

(1)     The Cross-Straits Economic and Trade Forum attracted extensive attention.

The 2009 Cross-Straits Economic and Trade Forum, one of the highlights of CXMEE explored ways to promote financial cooperation and serve small and medium-sized enterprises across the Taiwan Straits, and shared insights in coping with the serious challenges posed by the international financial crisis, taking full advantage of the mutual advantages of the mainland and Taiwan, and boosting international competitiveness of the SMEs across the Taiwan Straits. At the forum, attendees also shared insights into various other topics, including the consolidation of financial resources across the Taiwan Straits, SME financing and two-way investment, and ways to cope with technical barriers in world trade.

(2)     Specialized matchmaking events were held and technology promotion has become a new trend.

To promote exchange and collaboration in optoelectronics industries across the Taiwan Straits, a number of forums were held during the 13th CXMEE, including the 2009 Cross-Straits Optoelectronics Forum and the Third Cross-Straits Flat Panel Display Industry Cooperation Forum. To promote information initiatives, the 2009 Search Marketing Expo and the Second Cross-Straits E-commerce Summit Forum were organized. Other seminars and matchmaking evens focused on intensifying cooperation in vocational education between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits and on listing in Taiwan. Many exhibitors and industry associations also took advantage of the CXMEE as a platform to host seminars and briefings and to unveil new technologies, processes and products. The CXMEE has become a leading platform for promoting new technologies and products.

(3)     Topics at the seminars further expanded and industrial collaboration across the Taiwan Straits intensified.

At the 2009 Cross-Straits Optoelectronics Forum and Industry Matchmaking Symposium, the LED Streetlight Spot Measuring Standards were deliberated and accepted by the attendees.
