The upcoming Sixth China Xiamen Machinery and Electronics Exhibition will see an active participation of Taiwan companies, which have booked nearly one third of the booths.
An official surnamed Liu with the organizing committee said more than 140 enterprises from Taiwan have booked 220 booths at the exhibition, which is to be held in Xiamen from April 12 to 15.

Another 180 booths have been booked by Taiwanese-funded firms on the mainland.

The organizing committee has increased the number of booths to 1,270 from the planned 1,200 due to an unexpectedly large number of exhibitors.

The exhibition is co-sponsored by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronics Products, Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association and Xiamen Municipal Government.

As China's largest machinery and electronic exhibition, the event focuses on the exhibition of major export machinery and electronic products from both sides of the Taiwan Straits.

Earlier, Shen Danyang, director of the organizing committee, said about 3,000 business people from Taiwan and another 3,000 overseas traders are expected to attend the exhibition.

This year's event, the first one after both sides of the Taiwan Straits joined the World Trade Organization, is expected to further strengthen cross-Straits economic co-operation.

Shen said WTO entry will help force Taiwan to lift limits over parts of goods from the mainland.

Meanwhile, the mainland will also cancel quota ceilings for imports of goods from Taiwan, according to Shen.

Taiwan is now the mainland's fourth biggest trade partner.
