The 14th CXMEE Organizing Committee has announced that the 2010 Cross-Straits Economic and Trade Forum will be focused on the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA).

According to the organizers, the Cross-Straits Economic and Trade Forum will be themed around the signing of the ECFA and the development of the West Taiwan Straits Economic Zone. Principal speakers at the forum will include Jiao Youjun, director-general of the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association; Hong Du, chief executive of Taiwan’s Common Market Foundation; Liu Bizhen, vice president of Taiwan’s Chunghwa Economic Research Institute; Yi Xianrong, a research fellow with the Financial Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; and Yan Zheng, former president of the Fujian Academy of Social Sciences.

In light of increasing interaction in the economic and trade fields cross the Taiwan Straits, the forum will explore ways to reduce tariffs, strengthen investment protection, and avoid double taxation, with a view to boosting the complementary advantages of the industries on both sides of the Taiwan Straits and their international competitiveness.

The forum, due to open on April 8, is co-organized by the CXMEE Organizing Committee, the Cross-Straits Economic and Trade Exchange Association, the Cross-Straits Common Market Foundation, and Xiamen University.
