The four-day 13th China Xiamen Machinery & Electronics Exhibition (CXMEE) concluded on April 11, 2009 in Xiamen with fruitful results.

With the concerted efforts of machinery and electronic industries across the Taiwan Straits, the 13th CMXEE saw a significant improvement in overall standard and scale, richer functions, greater specialization, and more significant results. It exhibited the following five major characteristics:

I.    CXMEE attracts extensive attention and a dramatically increased number of visitors and becomes an effective platform for both the mainland and Taiwan to combat the international financial crisis and to jointly tap into the international marketplace.

The 13th CXMEE took place in a time of improving relations between the mainland and Taiwan and in the midst of the challenges of the international financial crisis. As of noon of April 11, the 13th CXMEE has attracted 31,844 visitors from 40 countries and territories, including 5,038 overseas visitors. Total attendance rose by 7,079 compared with last year. Taiwan continued to be the largest source of overseas visitors, with 2,563 visitors, accounting for 50.87 percent of total overseas visitors. Countries and regions with a large presence at CXMEE included Hong Kong, the U.S., Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Germany. The large increase in attendance indicates that CXMEE’s attractiveness and brand recognition have further improved. It also demonstrates the confidence of machinery and electronics industries in the market.

The 13th CXMEE continued to receive extensive attention from overseas business groups and industry professionals, who took an active part in the events. A total of 60 overseas delegations attended the CXMEE, including Taiwan Electric and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association, Taipei World Trade Center, Taiwan Chunghwa Information Software Association, Taiwan Lighting Exporters Association, Taipei Importers and Exporters Association, Taipei E-commerce Association, Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce for Economy and Trade, Singapore Xiamen Association, Thai Ministry of Commerce, Philippines-China Friendship Union, US-Fujian Chamber of Commerce, Xi’ao Fujian Association, and Macao-China Economic Promotion Council. Fujian Economic and Trade Committee and Fujian Machinery Industry Association jointly recruited 3000 business professionals to attend the CXMEE. Fujian Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and Xiamen Overseas Chinese Affairs Office recruited more than 250 industry representatives for business talks at the CXMEE.

This year’s CXMEE saw booming trading and delivered substantial results for exhibitors, and many of them received substantial orders. For example, Taiwan-based Hongquan Machinery won orders worth more than RMB 15 million, Mingxin Welding secured deals worth more than RMB 6 million, and Belgium’s Haco and Japan’s Sodick sold more than RMB 4 million worth of products at the CXMEE. At the first Engineering Machinery Exhibition, sales totaled more than RMB 200 million. Fujian Rongxin Equipment Rental signed a RMB 100 million sales agreement with Jingong Machinery, and Qiaoxiang Machinery signed a RMB 1 million procurement agreement with a merchant from the UAE. The Energy-saving Lighting Show recorded sales of USD 10 million.
