Many Taiwanese people are turning to the mainland for jobs in the midst of the ongoing financial turmoil. Yesterday, another 170 Taiwanese students and employees in the mainland attended a job fair catering exclusively to Taiwanese people.
The job fair is co-organized by human resources agencies from cross the Taiwan Straits. According to Cai Zongzhi, General Manager of Taiwan’s Pan Asia Human Resources Management Consulting Co., Ltd., his company has forwarded resumes for 500 Taiwan professionals to mainland enterprises. He revealed that more than 50 percent of Taiwanese professions are optimistic about job prospects in the mainland.
According to Mr. Cai, more than 75 percent of Taiwanese job seekers in the mainland are university educated and have prior work experience. Restructuring and strategic readjustment by enterprises in the midst of the financial crisis have opened up many job opportunities. Taiwanese professionals are strong in marketing, management, foreign trade, R&D, information, and garment.
Xiamen is a popular destination for Taiwanese professionals due to the city’s geographic proximity to and close kinship with Taiwan. Taiwanese professional prefer Taiwan-funded enterprises, followed by foreign-invested enterprises and mainland enterprises. However, Mr. Cai predict the situation will change and more Taiwanese people will join mainland enterprises.
The job fair featured more than 70 employers, including the Changeng Hospital, the International Bank, Hongfa Electro Acoustics, ABB China, King Long, Septwolves, and Singapore’s top three groups. As much as 88 percent of the employers are non-Taiwan-funded enterprises. The job fair provided 1400 job opening, up 87 percent from last year.
