The 13th China Xiamen Machinery and Electronics Exhibition (CXMEE) opened on April 8, 2009 to boost the trade between the Chinese Mainland and Taiwan in a global financial crisis.
The annual fair offers 1,970 booths this year, compared to 1,810 in 2008. Of the 800 machinery and electronics companies to promote their products, more than 200 are based in Taiwan or invested by Taiwanese.
In 2008, the cross-strait trade value reached USD 129.22 billion, with a trade surplus of USD 77.46 billion on the Taiwan side, whose surplus on machinery and electronics was USD 55 billion. But in the first two months of 2009, the two sides' trade of such products declined to a large extent, said Mr. Liu, declining to disclose the exact data.
