1. June 1996, Mr. Hong Yong Shi, Mayor of Xiamen, together with chief officials from related municipal departments, visited Beijing to report to the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade, and the Taiwan Affairs Office of State Council about the idea of holding a Taiwan-oriented export commodities fair in Xiamen.
2. September 1996, China Chamber of Commerce for
Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, China
Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Light Industrial
Products and Arts-Crafts, and China Chamber of Commerce for
Import & Export of Textiles made a preliminary decision
to co-sponsor with Xiamen Municipal Government the first session
of Taiwan-oriented Export Commodities Fair in Xiamen.
3. October 1996, Xiamen Municipal Government submitted an official application to the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade for holding the first session of Taiwan-oriented Export Commodities Fair in Xiamen, and meanwhile submitted the plan for the first session of the fair for approval by the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade.
4. November 8, 1996, the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade sent a reply letter to Xiamen Municipal Government, officially agreeing to the establishment of Taiwan-oriented Export Commodities Fair in Xiamen, and approving the working plan of the first session of the fair.
5. November 28, 1996, the organizing committee of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition held a press conference for the first time, announcing the first session of Taiwan-oriented export commodities fair to be held in April 1997 in Xiamen, along with “1997 Tourism and Shopping Festival for Taiwanese back in Mainland”.
6. December 1997, Premier of State Council Lipeng, Vice Premier Li Lanqing, Vice Premier Qian Qichen and Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Wu Yi, Director of Taiwan Affairs Office Chen Yunlin and other chief officials from central government and related central ministries and commissions epigraphed the first session of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition .
7. April 8-12, 1997, the first session of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition and 1997 Tourism and Shopping Festival for Taiwanese back in Mainland were held at Xiamen Fushan International Exhibition Center. Vice Premier Qian Qichen attended the fair and cut the ribbon for the opening ceremony.
8. April 12, 1997, Xiamen Promotion Center for the Trade to Taiwan, the organizer of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition, was officially established.
9. October 1997, the official website for China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition (www.straitsfair.org.cn) was launched.
10. April 8-12, 1998, the second session of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition was held at Xiamen Fushan International Exhibition Center. Xiamen Youcheng Commodities Exposition, 1998 Construction and Decoration Materials and Equipment Exhibition were held simultaneously.
11. August 1998, the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade decided to authorize Xiamen Municipal Government to co-sponsor China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition (starting from the third edition) with China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, China Chamber of commerce for Import and Export of Light Industrial Products and Arts-Crafts, China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Textiles. The organizing committee decided to invite exhibitors from worldwide from the third edition on.
12. April 8-12, 1999, the third session of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition was held at Xiamen Fushan International Exhibition Center with overseas guests from 32 countries and districts.
13. June 1998, the organizing committee decided that the 4th edition in 2000 be transformed, as a try, from a comprehensive exhibition to a specialized mechanical and electronic exhibition, and to invite Taiwanese mechanical and electronic companies to participate in the exhibition. The name of “China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition” was added. The exhibition dates were changed to April 12-15. “Xiamen International Computer and Telecommunication Electronic Products Exhibition” was scheduled during the same period.
14. September – November 1998, the organizing committee entered into agreements with Tai Chung World Trade Center, Taipei Computer Association, and Taiwan Electrical And Electronic Manufacturers’ Association for inviting the above three professional organizations to co-sponsor the fourth session of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition.
15. April 12-15, 2000, the fourth session of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition was held at Xiamen Fushan International Exhibition Center. Vice Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Luo Haocai attended the exhibition and cut the ribbon for the opening ceremony.
16. October 1999, Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association was added as one of the sponsors of the fair. China Chamber of commerce for Import and Export of Light Industrial Products and Arts-Crafts, and China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Textiles were no longer sponsors.
17. April 12-15, 2001, the fifth session of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition was held for the first time at the new Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. And also for the first time, total booths exceeded 1000, with 1200 international standard booths. Vice-Chairman of Committee of the National People's Congress He Luli and Vice Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Zhang Kehui cut the ribbon for the opening ceremony.
18. April 12-15, 2002, the sixth session of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition was held at Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. Vice-Chairman of Committee of the National People's Congress Jiang Chunyun called to express congratulations. “Cross-strait Mechanical and Electronic Industries Cooperation Forum” was held for the first time.
19. April 15, 2002, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee Wei Jianxing inspected the exhibition.
20. April 13-16, 2003, the seventh session of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition was held at Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. Transnational Procurement Fair for the Mechanical and Electronic Industries was held for the first time. Due to the impact of “SARS”, there was a slight decline of exhibition scale and number of attending guests.
21. April 12-15, 2004, the eighth session of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition was held at Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. A new photoelectronic pavilion was set up.
22. April 14, 2004, Vice-Chairman of Committee of the National People's Congress Li Tie Ying inspected the eighth session of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition.
23. September 2004, Semiconductor Illumination Engineering Leading Group Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and State New Material Industry Productivity Promotion Center decided to co-sponsor “2005 China (Xiamen) International Semiconductor Illumination Exhibition” with Xiamen Municipal Government along with the ninth session of China Xiamen Mechanical & Electronic Exhibition and during the same time hold “2005 China (Xiamen) International Semiconductor Illumination Seminar”.
24. September 2004, China Automobile Industry Association decided to co-sponsor “2005 China (Xiamen) Auto Parts and related equipment Fair” with the CXMEE organizing committee during the ninth session of CXMEE.
25. April 10, 2005, the delegation of Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association attended the exhibition by direct airline from Taiwan Jinmen island to Xiamen for the first time.
26. April 12-15, 2005, the ninth session of CXMEE was held at Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center, with 1480 booths.
27. April 8-11, 2006, the tenth session of CXMEE was held at Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier Wuyi sent a letter to congratulate on the 10th anniversary of CXMEE. Vice-Chairman of Committee of the National People's Congress Xu Jialu and Vice Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Zhang Kehui cut the ribbon for the opening ceremony.
